I Take Suboxone for Opiate Addiction. Is Suboxone Itself Addictive?

Question by terrielea: I take Suboxone for opiate addiction. Is suboxone itself addictive?

Best answer:

Answer by Ladycat
With successful buprenorphine treatment as part of a complete treatment plan including counseling, the patient can put the addictive behavior into remission. The patient may still be “physically dependent” on opioids, (as they were prior to treatment) but this can be managed medically and reduced over time by a slow and gradual taper off of the medication. Physical dependence (often mistaken for “addiction”) is not a dangerous medical condition that requires treatment, addiction is. Addiction is damaging and life-threatening, while physical dependence is an inconvenience, and is normal physiology for anyone taking large doses of opioids for an extended period of time.

Causes of Drug Addiction?

Question by Leo V: causes of drug addiction?

Best answer:

Answer by Mary Boo
I see this question posed so frequently: What’s the cause of drug addiction? I’ve asked the question myself many times. Whether you’re on the outside looking into an addicts life or you are an addict yourself and are questioning “How did I get here”? The cause of drug addiction is complex and varies from one person to the next. Many people (myself included), will tell you that meth addiction is one of the worst and hardest habits to kick. The grip meth has on an addict is physical as well as mental.

Pros of Alcohol and Drug Abuse?

Question by Angel: Pros of alcohol and drug abuse?
I’m having a debate on alcohol and drug abuse for my sociology class and my half of the debate are the pros. I certainly know that the functionalists would say that drug and alcohol abuse is good because it provides jobs for AA employees and provides greater economic flow. I’d actually like to know, are there any other pros besides the mentioned for the abuse of alcohol and drugs? Can the word “abuse” be used in a different context for alcohol and drugs? Please give me something to debate on the pros, thank you!
Okay, let me clarify my point of the debate: I was assigned the half of the debate that is pro drug and alcohol abuse, I had no say. I didn’t just ask for the pros of health, I’m also asking for benefits it causes. Functionalists, Conflict theorists, anything really. It wasn’t my choice to be the pro party. Sorry if I didn’t clarify enough.

Should All Drugs Be Legalized? Illegalized?

Question by Mr J: Should all Drugs be legalized? illegalized?
I am talking about all drugs. I am sure there are a lot of people who are going to advocate Marijuana legalization on here. Potheads: go chill out and smoke a bowl “maaan”, your not aloud in this conversation.
The truth: Are you high on THC right now? You need to look at both sides of the argument.

There are also many arguments against legalization.

1.

Legalization would increase the number of casual users which, in turn, would increase the number of drug abusers.
2.
