I think this it what government should try to do, and hopefully would try to do if not for the interference of special interests.

Government should provide universal health coverage. The program could cover basic, less expensive costs, focusing on preventive care, initial diagnosis of problems, basic treatment, and emergency services. I believe this will do the most to provide for a healthy population while keeping expenses at a minimum.

People could then purchase private coverage with more expanded coverage if they so choose. With proof of insurance, the government could provide a tax credit to help offset the tax burden of their health care program. Then people can choose whatever coverage they want from available private insurers, whether that be abortions or regular mammograms when you’re 30.

Why should someone be forced (taxed) to pay for other people’s health care expenses?

Why should someone be rewarded (given a tax credit) for purchasing insurance?

In other words, why is socialism, whether it be forced (taxed) or a choice (insurance) your idea of a good health care system?
