Veterans and AIDS…?

Question by * Renee *: Veterans and AIDS…?
I’m just wondering if there is any link between veterans in the United States (think World War 2 to present) and infectious diseases such as AIDS… I’m only asking this because I work for Tricare- the pharmacy which specifically dispenses medications to veterans, soldiers, and their families.. I’ve also worked at a regular CVS/pharmacy and I’ve noticed that the government specifically has their own health branch FOR Veterans with infectious diseases (such as AIDS) as well as a higher amount of veterans that are taking AIDS drugs than are the “regular” people at CVS…

I’m not sure if there is a link or not; I’ve tried googling it but came up with nothing. It breaks my heart whenever I see anyone taking an AIDS drug, especially veterans.. so I’m just wondering if there was anything- possibly an outbreak or something? I’m only 22 years old so I wasnt around when a lot of these people were actually fighting and don’t know if there was anything going on around that time that may have been military-involved to infect them or if they just made some bad choices in their sex lives, needle usage, etc… thanks.

I was a pharmacy tech as a soldier a year ago and never noticed the link between veterans and aids but my thought on this is: You worked at CVS.. if a person with aids is seeking treatment most of their meds will be out of a hosptial pharmacy rather than a regular retail pharmacy so you say you work in a tricare pharmacy now… so I assume your in a clinical pharmacy vs. your previous job in retail. You’ll see much more serious cases working in a hospital and also, different posts specialize in different types of care. Like Ft.SamHouston in san antonio caters mostly to burn victims and missing limbs while Ft Meade specializes in severely wounded from combat victims…I’m at Ft.Campbell, KY and since we’re so close to Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN I saw alot of cancer patients and alot of people with heart disease… not sure where your located but it’s just a thought.
