How Can I Console Somebody Recovering From Drug Addiction?
Question by Bela: How can I console somebody recovering from drug addiction?
I have a suitemate who is moving out because of her drug addiction. Her mom has been living here for the past week, and it has been quite an emotional experience. There have been many tears, and many prayers. I was not really close with her (my suitemate) until these past few weeks. I really want to write her a letter reassuring her that everything will be okay. Any suggestions?

I go to alanon but my mom is in denial. I’ve been thinking of helping those addicted to drugs or alcohol to get better (off drugs and stop drinking). What jobs are there that would have me do this? And what type of degree would I need? I am currently a first semester freshman in college and my major is criminology and criminal justice with a concentration in community corrections
Why Is Drug Addiction Considered a Disease?

I guess because addictions are mental disorders. When someone is addicted.to something they really cannot stop. Stopping means they suffer. It hurts them physically to be without their drug. Because their brain has been convinced that they NEED this drug, alcohol, or food to survive. But I certainly understand why you would be frustrated when you have a disease that you were born with.
