There are numerous books available to help people identify their problem, and then suggest ways for these victims to consciously avoid spending needless money on shopping. But an alternative may be to give something away each time one shops. That is, for every item one buys at the mall, another item may be donated to charity. After time, one will likely become so fulfilled with the art of giving that they no longer feel the need to shop. It is not an overnight process, but it can happen.
